This beautifully crafted ornament depicts the Marion County Library at 321 Monroe Street.

The public library can trace its roots to the early 1890s, when the Women’s Christian Temperance Union established a library in Fairmont. Economic difficulties closed the library twice in the 1920’s, but public dollars resurrected the library in the 1930’s and it moved to its current site in the city’s old Post office building in 1942
