Individuals or businesses may apply for a grant to be reimbursed up to 50% of the cost of the work and may not exceed $5000. Recipients of the grant must pay the grant back if the business ceases to exist within three years after receiving the grant. In the case of a property owner receiving the grant, repayment of the grant must be made if ownership is transferred within one year of receipt of the grant. All grants will be made on a reimbursement basis.
If located in the Downtown Historic District:
• Complete a FACADE GRANT PROGRAM APPLICATION and send a copy of this application along with a sketch of proposed façade renovation to Main Street Fairmont, 206 Adams Street, Fairmont, WV 26554 or fax it to Main Street Fairmont at 366-0468.
• Complete a Historic Preservation Review Commission APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS. This application can be picked up at the City Building or downloaded above. Return the completed application to the City of Fairmont. If approved by the Historic Preservation Commission and the Design Committee, you must then get a building permit from the City of Fairmont.
• Complete work as proposed.
• After completion of project, submit a letter requesting reimbursement for 50% of the project up to $5,000 along with a copy of all invoices for materials and work to Main Street Fairmont.
• Upon approval by Main Street Fairmont, we will forward this information along with a letter of approval and Request for Reimbursement to the City of Fairmont for their approval.
• They will submit a Request for Reimbursement from the State of West Virginia.
• You will receive your check from the City of Fairmont if located in the Merchant Street area.
Approval + Reimbursement:
• If approved by the Design Committee, you must then get a building permit from the City of Fairmont.
• Complete work as proposed.
