WELCOME TO MAIN STREET FAIRMONT!
It doesn't take visitors long to understand why we've earned the honor of our nickname, "The Friendly City"! Fairmont is the county seat of Marion County, West Virginia. Fairmont is also touted as "The Home of the Original Pepperoni Roll, home of the nation's first Father's Day service and Fairmont State University.
The City of Fairmont is a great place to live, work and play. In recent years, Main Street Fairmont worked with the City of Fairmont and numerous private developers to revitalize our downtown. One of Fairmont's grandest achievements was the renovation of several historic buildings into high tech office space at Veteran's Square. This redevelopment project gave new life to an abandoned corner of town though the creation of 64,000 sq. ft. of retail and commercial space and a memorial to honor the veterans of Marion County. Meeting local, state and national preservation standards, the project also added an additional 40,000 sq. ft. of parking space to promote access to the new commercial area. The new downtown facility houses divisions of Fairmont State University including Pierpont Community and Technical College, the West Virginia Small Business Development Center and over 100 jobs affiliated with the WV High Tech Consortium. The University previously had no downtown presence and this project provided a link connecting the two. Fairmont also has a strong local economy with specialty shops, restaurants and unique galleries.
Fairmont's downtown is full of opportunity. Won't you join us as we continue to transform our city into a thriving 21st century community?
